Detailed answer to the quiz question
The last German emperor was Wilhelm II, who was forced to abdicate after the November Revolution in 1918. He ruled the German Empire from 1888 to 1918 and shaped the era of the German Empire with his authoritarian leadership style and expansive foreign policy.
During the First World War (1914-1918), Wilhelm II increasingly lost influence as the military under the leadership of Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg and General Erich Ludendorff effectively gained power. As military defeat became apparent towards the end of the war and revolutionary unrest escalated in November 1918, political leaders and the people demanded his resignation.
On November 9, 1918, Philipp Scheidemann proclaimed the republic in Berlin while Wilhelm II was at his headquarters in Spa (Belgium). He fled to the Netherlands on November 10 and officially abdicated the throne on November 28, 1918. This ended the German monarchy and the Weimar Republic was founded. Wilhelm II spent the rest of his life in exile in Doorn in the Netherlands, where he died in 1941.
