Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He studied theology at Morehouse College and Crozer Theological Seminary. After graduating, he became a pastor at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. In Montgomery, King began to campaign for the rights of African Americans. He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which desegregated public transportation in Alabama.
King became one of the leading figures of the civil rights movement. He organized and spoke at numerous demonstrations and rallies. His most famous appearance was his “I Have a Dream” speech on the Washington Mall on August 28, 1963. In his speech, King called on the nation to create a society in which all people are equal, regardless of their skin color. His speech is considered one of the most important speeches in American history.

On April 4, 1968, he was the victim of an assassination attempt in Memphis, Tennessee. Martin Luther King Jr. is a symbol of the fight for equality and peace. His legacy lives on to this day.
