Neeson was born on June 7 in Northern Ireland. Before he achieved international recognition, his name was known only to true film buffs. With roles in films such as “Excalibur” (1981), “Darkman” (1990) and “Husbands and Wives” (1992), Liam Neeson was certainly busy, but it took Hollywood a long time to capture his movie star aura. It was only when Steven Spielberg saw him as the ideal choice for the role of Oskar Schindler in 1993 that Liam Neeson’s career took off.
“Schindler’s List” was followed by a whole series of prestigious films. Liam Neeson played the Scottish folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor in “Rob Roy”, the Irish revolutionary leader “Michael Collins” and Jean Valjean in “Les Misérables”. At the age of 56, Liam Neeson then took off as an action star . This second career, as unexpected as it was successful, began with “Taken”. In the revenge story, he played retired secret agent Bryan Mills, whose daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers. The resulting vigilante action was well received by audiences. The film went on to spawn two successful sequels and several similar thrillers.
For “Taken 3”, Liam Neeson was ultimately able to pocket 20 million dollars, the highest salary of his career. However, his professional success was overshadowed by a private stroke of fate. In 2009, Neeson’s wife Natasha Richardson died at the age of 45 following a skiing accident. The marriage between the actor and Richardson produced two sons.
