The daily quiz of December 8, 2025 once again looks at important discoveries without which the world would not be as we know it today. Where was paper invented around 105 CE? In case you don’t know, it happened in China. The court official Cai Lun (also known as Ts’ai Lun) developed a method of making paper from a mixture of hemp fibers, tree bark, rags and other materials. These were soaked in water, crushed, boiled and then pressed into flat sheets. This created a way of recording information and transporting it over long distances.

Let’s stick to history. We want to know what the saying “As soon as the money rings in the box, the soul jumps to heaven!” stood for in the 15th century. It referred to the belief that the purchase of indulgences or donations to the church would lead to the souls of the deceased believers reaching paradise more quickly. This saying was often used by indulgence merchants such as Johannes Tetzel to encourage believers to donate more. Incidentally, much of the revenue from the sale of indulgences was used to finance the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Would you like to see three more quiz questions that appear in the Monday’s knowledge quiz? Then you might be able to prepare yourself a little: Which German writer wrote the story “Der Aufstand der Fischer von St. Barbara” (1928)? On which Beatles album did the song “Yesterday” (1965), one of the most covered pop songs of all time, appear? Who landed a Cessna 172 P on the Great Moskva Bridge not far from Red Square in Moscow in 1987?
