General knowledge quiz: Test yourself!
Let’s start with a surprising revelation: the Bible never mentions the Magi! The Gospel of Matthew only tells of wise men or stargazers from the East, also known as “magoi”, who paid homage to the manger. It was only over the centuries that they became kings and were given the names Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar.
Their names are representative of the then known continents of Africa, Asia and Europe. The three thus became symbols of the universal significance of Jesus Christ for the whole world. This Bible quiz will guide you through the various aspects of their history – from their mention in the Bible to their veneration as saints.
Another particularly mysterious story surrounds the Shrine of the Three Kings in Cologne Cathedral. The remains of the Three Kings are said to rest here. However, the authenticity of these relics is still disputed to this day. January 6, Epiphany, not only marks the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. It is also the day on which children dressed up as carol singers go from door to door to bring the blessing and collect donations for children in need.
Epiphany may only be a public holiday in certain federal states in Germany, but the fascination with the Three Wise Men extends all over the world. With an amazing mix of legends, historical mysteries and current discussions.
