How are points calculated in a quiz?

In a quiz, all players receive the same questions.

You will be asked several quiz questions, for which you have a maximum of 30 seconds each. We measure the exact answer time to two decimal places.

Each question has a difficulty level. There are 5 difficulty levels. A correct answer to a question is worth different points depending on the difficulty level.

  1. very easy= 25 points
  2. easy = 50 points
  3. intermediate = 75 points
  4. challenging = 100 points
  5. expert = 125 points

If any time remains after the maximum 30 seconds per question and a correct answer, this is added to the points awarded for that question. The result is rounded up or down.

If the 30 seconds expire and the question remains unanswered, the next question appears. No answer is counted as an incorrect answer.

How is the difficulty level of the quiz questions determined?

Each quiz question is assigned a difficulty level, which we manually assign based on experience. Sometimes it’s difficult to assess how hard a question really is. Knowledge changes over time because it’s influenced by cultural developments and societal norms. For example, a 30-year-old today has different knowledge about the 1960s than someone who experienced that era firsthand.

After a certain period, we review the answers to quiz questions and adjust the difficulty rating accordingly. We use benchmarks to guide this process.

  • Quiz questions – very easy = 80 to 100% correct / 0 to 20% wrong answers
  • Quiz questions – easy = 60 to 80% correct / 20 to 40% wrong answers
  • Quiz questions – intermediate = 40 to 60% correct / 40 to 60% wrong answers
  • Quiz questions – challenging = 20 to 40% correct / 40 to 80% wrong answers
  • Quiz questions – expert = 0 to 20% correct / 80 to 100% wrong answers
What data is collected during the quizzes?

For each quiz, as well as for the high score and leaderboards, we collect and calculate the following data:

  1. the number of correct answers
  2. the points awarded for correct answers
  3. the success rate (ratio of questions to correct answers)
  4. the time taken for a correct answer.
What happens when a quiz is completed?

At the end of each quiz, players have two options.

A. Save Score

If this option is selected, the current score is saved and displayed:

  1. in the quiz’s high scores
  2. in the player’s profile
  3. in the leaderboard of all quizzers

After saving the data, the following will be visible:

  1. the correct answers to the questions
  2. the player’s score
  3. the quiz’s high score

After saving the data, the quiz cannot be played by the player for 30 days.

B. Play Again

If the quiz is played again, all data will be overwritten. The quiz answers and the high score will not be visible.
